Last of the Cormorant Fishermen
Guilin, China
Only a few fishermen still catch fish along the Li River with their trusted companions, the cormorant birds. Together they travel down the placid river to gather fish. These birds can live up to 23 years. Fishermen gently tie strings around their partners’ necks so that when they catch a fish they will not swallow it whole. Before dusk they seem to chuckle while they share their bounty together as they return to their fishing villages.
